Balancing Your Mind and Body: Lisa Responds to Community Comments

Hi there! Welcome back to the Lisa Nichols Show—where we share the tools that we need to live the life that we want, achieve the goals that we set, and have the abundance that’s ours by birthright. You know I love to read your comments, and I love to hear about your #BOL (breakthroughs out loud). And when you tag me with #YANA (you are not alone), I know that we are connecting and feeling the same thing. I love recognizing how we are more alike than we are different, and today, I want to celebrate those things that bring us together by talking about your comments. This is a dialogue, and it’s important for me to hear from you!

A while back, I had an episode called Balancing Your Mind and Body where I talked about my personal struggles with my own body, and what I did to overcome them. I issued a challenge to do something to love your body in the next 24 hours. So many of you related to this struggle, and shared their own stories with me, and I want to share a few of those today.

Let’s start with Selena, who wrote, “I’ve been sitting with my body for 27 years and not once have I been in love with it. As I write this, Lisa, I’m in tears because I’m reminded of that little chubby girl who couldn’t wait to be ‘me now,’ because the ‘me now’ was going to be the bomb. But, the ‘me now’ is still the chubby little girl, and in the next 24 hours, the one step I will take is to apologize to every part of me for not loving me, and to thank every part of me for still being here.”

I want to thank you, Selena. And I want to say, I see you. I love you and I understand exactly where you were when you wrote that, and I want to validate you right where you are now. It’s natural for us to think negatively, because our minds are naturally drawn to seeing what is wrong. We overlook the good and beautiful things about ourselves—our eyes, our smile, or our beautiful skin. I want to invite everyone to take the time to look in the mirror and recognize the parts of you that you love the most. Sit in the power of the positivity you feel when you call out the things that you love about yourself. The more you call out, the more you will find to love.

Think about all of the things your body allows you to do: make meals for your loved ones, hug your friends and your children, create works of art, and lift and carry things to do your work. If you’re looking in the mirror and wishing that you had fewer wrinkles, stop and think about all of your beautiful life experiences, and how many times you smiled to create those little lines around your eyes and mouth. You have a pretty amazing life, or you are creating one. Be grateful for those little “imperfections.”

Janelle wrote, “This is FOR ME! I’ve not been listening to my body. I’ve been neglecting my temple. I commit in the next 24 hours to prepare a healthy meal, to create a meal plan, to go shopping for the foods I need to follow the plan that I’m setting, and then give my body a fighting chance to heal itself.” She goes on to say, “Thank God you were brave enough to come on here and speak your truth. Your past is my present, so I’m determined to make my future better by doing what needs to be done to heal and get well.”

I want to celebrate you, Janelle. I love your honesty and your willingness to recognize that you deserve to take better care of your body, so it can help you to do more amazing things. I want to hear back from you to know how your meal plan went, and if you dropped it, tell me that you’re going to pick it back up. You’ve got this; I truly believe that you will be successful in getting healthy.

I love this message from Marquita, “This message was for me, and it’s so relatable. I’ve been on a health and wellness journey for years. I was overweight, obese, most of my life. I reached 300 pounds. I’ve been successful with weight release, and became a wellness coach. But then things shifted for me. My body and mind are telling me to rest, so this is what I’ll be doing for the next 24 hours, and I plan to make this my practice going forward.”

Blessings to you for this message, Marquita. First of all, congratulations on your journey through obesity and weight release, and the mindset that you had to adopt, the decisions you had to make, and the practices that you had to make consistent. I love all of that, and I love the willingness to recognize that too much of a good thing requires a break—we all need to rest! Sometimes, when we accomplish a big goal, we can take it too far because we fear that we will slide back into old habits. I want to celebrate your recognizing that you needed rest. We all need rest! And I love that you coach others to get healthy—what a great way to use your experience to help others!

I just want to thank every one of you who comments on these episodes. It builds this community and brings us all closer together when we realize that we are never alone in our challenges and victories. Please keep commenting! Tell me about your #BOL (breakthroughs out loud). Ask questions about things you’d like to see on the show. I’d love to feature your question or comment in a future episode. And I want you to remember that I love you, and I believe in you. I can’t wait to see you next time. Be well.

I left relationships that do not serve me. I was in toxic friendship relationships for years. I noticed this pattern and I shifted. I removed those relationships from my life after my beloved Aunt Eunice joined the Ancestors. I began to hear the put downs these Women directed towards me every single time something truly stupendous and positive happened in my life.
I got the message from the Universe. I stopped being there for them focused on my journey in mental health and wellness. My life changed instantly. I was rewarded with 3 new contracts. One included a speaking engagement at a major conference in Arizona.
My life changed when I started being kind to myself and putting myself first. Thank you Lisa! YOU ARE AMAZING!

    Hello Lisa,
Thank you for being here for all of us
I am so grateful for your insight,as as some I have never heard before and that opens up another door
I am talking to my inner child everyday pretty much and taking care of her as she went through so much and never had a childhood. It still has me cry even mentioning it now, although I tell myself I’m here now to take care of my inner child and the person that I am is stronger and wiser and I do love myself then and now and that
Brings me to thriving in all ways possible.
I brought myself to your space and that of my year of miracles so I know I’m on the right path ☺️

Thank you for the message today. I heard it as I was sitting, resting, doing what my body told me, but the whole time I was wrestling with tremendous guilt about it. Oh my brain gets crazy!! My body said to rest, so I rest. When my brain gets in the way, I focus on my breathing to calm my crazy and to put aside all the tasks and “stuff” that I feel I should be doing. I know I’m always more productive and especially more creative once I’ve allowed myself to rest. Thank you for the reminder.

Great episode Balancing Your Mind & Body. I’d like to share my challenge balancing a youthful, vibrant mind with an aging body. I have reached the golden age of 65! I am trying to embrace all the pluses of being 65 like FREE access to the gym – it’s called Silver Sneakers, and other cool senior benefits. I am a community leader, family leader, non-profit leader and leader in my circle of friends. But with all this I look in the mirror and something inside me says, “Go sit down old lady, you’ve had your time.” I want to find a new love for my wrinkles, sags, aches, skin, shifting weight, and gray hair. And sing an old hymn I use to hear back in the day as they sang “oh Lord I’m not tired yet! No I’m not tired yet!” I will say to myself everyday, “I am loved, beautiful, free to be me, and gifted with so much more to give until MY MIND & BODY, not my age says I need to sit down and rest!!” Because I’m not tired yet! Thank you Lisa my sister!

This journey of balance and my mind showed me how wonderful God is and when I finally rest in his LOVE and COMFORT I see the POWER of being g his vessel for him. I got to see the Monique he created and proud of my strength to cut out all bad toxins regarding our vessel to be cleansed internally and externally. If I’m going to make a lifestyle change for FREEDOM then I will, reap the juicy fruits of my labor with his help. Resting I finally paid attention to this last lap with other’s. Loving myself so much that me and Jesus became best friends cause I seen the results in the way I eat, speak, carried myself and how I treated others. Being in my mature self I seen the beauty in balancing with a healthy mind to rebuild my family and see them win. This is a WIN WIN lifestyle I can live forever and not ever worry about the girl that was stuck in a broken program. I’m very blessed to make it this far and never folded when my body was getting attacked. My vision is clear and God is in the driver seat and I’m in the passenger seat enjoying the sun rays to plant so many mustard seeds in broken vessals that needs a POWERFUL TOOL to save OUR Universal Nation. I see beauty in all walks of life that is controlled by a Source that doesn’t know how to control they own Balance and lil Minds!!!! Thank you for you we need more just like you with a thriving HEART.

    Hello Lisa (Sis)
It is such a great pleasure to always listen to you. Your messages are very encouraging, and resonates with me. I will be one year older very soon, but I have made a pledge to myself to be in the best physical state of my life. I have not only thought of this idea, but I have taken the necessary steps. I am going to the gym 3 times a week, and I am really putting the work in. Now walking on the treadmill now up to an hour. I am beginning to look and feel so much better physically, and emotionally. This has boosted my self esteem, and I feel wonderful. I now feel I can do anything. Look out world, I am coming. Thank you Lisa. Much ❤️ Your Sis.Hortense
