Make Your Message Memorable

Hi there, and welcome back to the Lisa Nichols Show. I love having you here in this community to connect and build better lives together. You may not know it, but it matters to me and to our family that you are here with us, because together, we can achieve more, grow more, and connect more to  impact the world. I’m at the point in my career where I have learned so much through my own trials and errors that I can share that valuable information to help you on your journey.

Today, I want to tell you about some of the things that will help you become a great keynote speaker. Now you might be saying, “Lisa, I just post videos on social media. I’m not speaking to a large live audience.” That doesn’t matter. I don’t care if you’re speaking to one person, or hundreds of people. It doesn’t matter if you’re recording a video in your car, or standing on a stage in an auditorium. You need to treat your audience as if you’re speaking to a filled stadium, every time. So, I’m here to share my Top 3 Tips for making your speaking engagements more powerful and memorable and to help you connect more fully with your audience.

#1 – Make it a Dialogue, not a Monologue

You know what I say every time I speak with you: I want it to be a two-way conversation, whether you’re coming to see me at a live event, or you’re watching a video like this one. You need to get your audience involved—make their story as important as your own. Your audience wants you to speak with them, not at them. There’s a big difference between those two things.

To get people involved, you can ask questions, or have them participate in some way. If you have a live audience, maybe say something like, “Raise your hand if you’ve ever experienced something like this.” Lots of people will raise their hands and nod their heads, because now you’ve got them engaged in the dialogue. They’re paying attention, letting you know that they can relate to what you’re saying. This helps you as a speaker, too.

If you’re on a Zoom or other platform, speaking to a virtual audience, invite them to participate in the chat. You could say, “Tell me where you are on a scale of 1-10.” You’ll watch the chat box fill up with answers, and now you’ve got a dialogue. Or in the case of a pre-recorded video like this one, I always ask you to share in the comments section. It gets you involved in the conversation, and I love that.

#2 – Add Sparkle and Zest

We are all some kind of artist—so add some sparkle that attracts your audience by catching their attention with fun clothing, beautiful staging, music, or whatever speaks to you and your listeners. I love to have a simple, yet beautiful stage. Maybe you would like to use colored lighting behind you, or have photography or an accent piece that is eye-catching. Using relevant music is always great—you know when you go see a really dynamic speaker, and there is high energy music playing when they come on stage? That’s all part of the speaking engagement, whether you realize it or not, because it gets your attention and makes the speaker more interesting before they even open their mouth.

I recently spoke at an event where all of the speakers wore elaborate headpieces. You can choose clothing or wear a costume that is connected to your message. Know your audience. If you’re speaking to a group of spirited entrepreneurs, get creative and fun. Use whatever spark you can to elevate your speaking event and make it more engaging for your audience.

#3 – Always Play Full Out

Always. Say it with me, “Always play full out.” If you’re going to show up, SHOW UP. Don’t hold back—be generous with your energy, and give your audience 100% every time you speak. I mean this sincerely, whether you have 1 audience member or 100, they will feel how much you’ve put into it. Share your gifts with the audience—give them everything you have in that moment. Look at every speaking opportunity not only to share your message, but to share your gifts with the world.

Whether your gift is the gift of intuition, or beautiful energy, grace and ease, or it’s the gift of high energy and motivation, or it’s the gift of wisdom. Maybe you’re an intellect and you want to share the intellect that you have. Whatever your gifts are, they are meant to be shared with the world, so share them full out – don’t hold back!

This speaks to your authenticity as a speaker, as well. Your vulnerability is important. Share that story about your struggles, and what you had to overcome to get this far. Don’t hold back out of fear; be in it to win it. No matter how many people or what the circumstances, always give everything you’ve got at every speaking opportunity, and your audience will connect with your message and with you.

Now, I hope this helps you, and just like I mentioned above, this show is not a monologue. This entire show is a dialogue. I would love to hear from you. What’s the biggest a-ha that you had based on what I shared? What’s something that you’ve been doing and you go, “Oh my God, Lisa, I get it.” Or what’s something that you want to begin to do but you still don’t quite know how to do it and you’d like my advice on it? Type in the chat here. Let me know exactly what you thought about this episode, how it brought value, or ask any question that it brought up for you. This is your home and we are your tribe. If you’ve been with me for a while, you have heard me say this before: I truly do love you and believe in you. I look forward to seeing you real soon.

    Dear Meme Lisa

Thank you so much for reaching out time and again and continuously pouring into my cup. I know you meet many many of us daily , I was one of the winners of a beautiful gift of a Thrive to Inspire in 2023 .

From the message you just shared, I constantly use dialogue and I’m so happy to hear you recommend it, I’ve seen its effect in action. I also like to bring the Zest and just my high energy in general.

There was a point I struggled with this , mainly because I have been shut down , being told to tone it down as I am apparently too much /too loud / too hyper , and it’s not very modest to be like that .

I struggle from time to time , as I think for a very long time , I have been conditioned to read the room and adjust to its temperature. Even when I know I am to be myself and not hide my gift from the world.

I’d very much like to hear how you can guide me on getting past this .

I have been handed a few opportunities to speak on various stages , and I can say I am getting better by the day . And I appreciate you so much .

My dream is to one day attend your live and in -person camps / events .

    Love ;

Hi, Lisa as always what a wonderful and valuable message. All of these points are amazing. Questions that I have 1. As a preacher who travel to speak, 1. How do I make my sermons a dialogue. I don’t like the traditional ways “ tell your neighbor” etc. 2. How do I make my stage beautiful when many time the stage is already set up? Lastly, 3. I need help bringing my message alive on my own personal stages.

Thank you Lisa for sharing this amazing information. Very kind and generous of you. Your second point on adding sparkle and zest is spot on. Having colored lighting and playing music before coming on really catches an audience attention. Gets them into it before you even say a single word.

Hello everyone, Devell Hawkins. I’m one of the most important/powerful speakers of this generation. I have a special connection with the youth and young adults. But I struggle when it comes to landing speaking gigs. Lisa, this where I can use your help and also learn a lot of other things from you. Although, my confidence may stand out, I’m a constant student of the game and I applaud every speaker out there. So, good job everyone, continue to let your voice be heard.

I just thought it was amazing how even a 4 year old could feel Lisa’s connection. My little girl watched the video all the way to the end and said “ I really like Her”.

Lisa, I know everyone has a story to tell. I am not sure what my story is. I know you need a topic people want to hear. I know I have one just not sure what it is and how to deliver. I have been at a job for over 12 yeas, no room for growth. Finally, the acct. is closing, I truly believe this is God’s way of telling me it is time for change. Would like some advice, perhaps a topic that can capture an audience and coach.

I love that you say it should be a dialogue, that is what I want to do! When it is one on one, I am energetic, funny and authentic and then I change when it is an audience. I don’t want to change!! I want to be the same. So that is what I will practice…”make it a dialogue”. Thanks Lisa

    Hello Lisa
Love and Gratitude from Switzerland ‍♀️ thanks for your inspiring stuff and thanks for asking
The above video is linked in content with the other one one my site, “The Future is Now”
If you can find 26 minutes, you can watch them both and get a grasp on what i’m up to. Ideally the vision is to create futuristic villages (like fractals) implementing and metering the two quotes in The Future is Now. Then in these places create a comedy sitcom portraying what the infrastructure might transform into, to house a next level human being. In fact i think that creating a podcast “The Future is Now” within the sitcom it can reach and Serve a broader audience and we can benefit from creating spinoffs to have a ROI from this on the dedicated Mazviita (Thank You) website which is what i’m looking into creating now.
i just want to say that after three days of me on iMovie trying to put it together, i said ok, this is too much for me to do all alone!! And as soon as the intention came to pray and ask for support! The name Arber came to mind. Now Arber is Albanian and he lives two doors down. Well, he did the editing and we overcame the language barrier ☀️ it’s a start and i’m excited at the thought of you checking it out, reading between the lines, and seeing the potential
    Thank you soooo much!!!

Thank you for the tips and advice. I struggle with talking infront of people. Even though I know what I am going to talk about. It’s like everything will go blank! And my work sometimes requires public speaking. I just get nervous. I thought maybe it’s because I overthink things too much, or self esteem. Sometimes I will tell myself I can do this, when the time comes! Blank, nervousness.

i always admire your energy, passion, and how authentic you are, and the great advice you offer. I cannot say exactly where life is taking me, but I have completed a writing project and am in the process of going over all with a fine tooth comb, while looking for an editor. A random question would be with my ever changing title. The latest is “Walking Into The Light Without Sight; A New Vision For What Is Possible”. In this spiritual memoir, i share my experiences of losing loved ones, questioning an afterlife, and the need to face incurable blindness, and how this unexpected search for answers opened the door to spirit. I never thought i would write a book,, blind, let alone about our ability to connect to spirit. I listen to your videos and appreciate you, and all that you offer. Thank you.

This is so timely for me as I have a big important presentation that I will be “delivering” at the end of the month. I will be speaking to an executive in my line of business and they will be making a decision on where I will ultimately report to. I wish to stay where I am. Although know the universe has its plan for me! Do you have any recommendations for me- I will have about 5 -7 minutes to present!
